Dule Hill tweeted a fun photo of Psych’s crime-fighting quartet – James Roday’s ”psychic” Shawn Spencer, Dule Hill’s BFF Burton “Gus” Guster, Timothy Omundson’s Santa Barbara police detective Carlton “Lassie” Lassiter and Maggie Lawson’s detective Juliet O’Hara — at their police station set in North Shore Studios in the morning.

Much later in the day, Psych filmed inside the heritage Kensington Place in the West End, with Timothy Omundson’s Carleton “Lassie” Lassiter spotted on set. Could this be the Carleton and Marlowe love nest? Maybe not. The twenty-two European-style condos in this renovated 1912 building shouldn’t be in the newly-married couple’s price range, with their 9-foot ceilings, Corinthian pillars and Rococo moldings.

John Noble and Joshua Jackson had a lot of fun filming a father-and-son scene for the third to last episode of Fringe — The Boy Must Live — six weeks ago in the pouring rain of Vancouver’s West End.

[Update: Here's a FOX video of the father-and-son scene Although we saw it filmed with many camera setups, we didn't hear what they were saying. Be warned there are more spoilers, but these are ones FOX chose to share]

John Noble’s Dr.Walter Bishop runs out of an alley onto Bute Street where Jackson’s Peter Bishop catches up with him. They have a long talk and then embrace in a big hug.

RELATED: The Big Hug

Earlier, the two Bishops had practiced Jackson running after Noble out of the alley onto the street, laughing the whole way and heading straight towards a group of fans huddled under umbrellas against the wall. At one point, Jackson suggested the pair keep going to Stanley Park, where their warm, dry trailers were parked. I wish I could have captured their schoolboy smiles in sharp, clear focus, but the relentless rain drenched me and played havoc with my camera.

After five seasons — four of them filmed in Vancouver — American TV series Fringe wrapped filming this morning at The Bridge Studios. Almost all of its fifth and final season takes place in the dystopian future of 2036 with our amber-preserved Fringe family leading the resistance against Observer overlords. Local and visiting fans spotted Anna Torv’s Olivia Dunham, Joshua Jackson’s Peter Bishop, John Noble’s Dr. Walter Bishop and other members of the former Fringe Division all over Vancouver this summer, fall and winter — from Stanley Park to UBC to Pacific Central Station to the Burrard Bridge to Victory Square to the West End to the Olympic Village to Hasting West to Robson Street to the Vancouver Art Gallery to Granville Street to Hornby Street to Gastown to Chinatown to Coal Harbour to the Vancouver Public Libary to the Cambie Bridge to Oceanic Plaza. Each a public location where people were welcome to watch. That’s one of the reasons why Fringe will be so missed in this city.

Fringe’s fifth season opened in Stanley Park with a utopian scene of Joshua Jackson’s Peter Bishop and Anna Torv’s Olivia Dunham (aka POlivia) out for a family picnic with their daughter Etta in 2016. A family picnic that was interrupted by Observageddon, the Observer invasion from the future, and the abduction of little Etta.

That same day, Fringe crew went from utopian to dystopian, filming scenes of the Observer-ruled world twenty-odd years later when Loyalist soldiers and collaberating citizens dressed in 1940s garb help keep a desperate population in order. Amber-preserved POlivia reunited with grownup Etta as well as Walter and Jasika Nicole’s Astrid and the original Fringe team joined the Resistance.

But Walter Bishop was captured by Michael Kopsa’s Captain Windmark, the final season’s Big Bad, and his mind wiped of his plan to defeat the Observers. In the second episode, the Fringe team broke into Walter’s old lab on the Observer-occupied Harvard University campus, played by the University of British Columbia, hoping to find information to reconstruct Walter’s plan.

After infiltrating Pacific Central Station dressed as a New Jersey Monorail station to retrieve part of Walter’s plan in the fourth episode, the group met up with Lance Reddick’s 20-years-older Philip Broyles under the Burrard Bridge. It proved an emotional respite before the Observers cornered the Fringe team in an abandoned building played by the Terminal City Ironworks complex in east Vancouver. There Captain Windmark shot Georgina Haig’s Etta. She had a chance to say goodbye to the parents she’d known for a mere handful of episodes before blowing up herself and the building.

Dead Etta became a poster girl for the Resistance and drove her father Peter to torture an Observer and carve out the Observer tech to put in his own head in the fifth episode.

Unbeknownst to Olivia and Walter, Peter used the Observer tech in his head to track and anticipate moves by Captain Windmark’s lieutenants on West Hastings and then kill them in the seventh episode. Meanwhile, Olivia, Walter and Astrid approached Blair Brown’s silver-haired, wheel chair-bound Nina Sharp for help at the Ministry of Science played by the Olympic Village.

Peter targeted Captain Windmark himself in the eighth episode filmed on Robson Street near B.C. Place, inside CBC Vancouver and on the roof of the Vancouver Art Gallery in a rainstorm. Under a scrim, Anna Torv’s Olivia convinced Joshua Jackson’s Peter to remove the Observer tech in his head before he lost love.

Tonight’s Fringe is the ninth episode of the final season with Peter himself and Walter on a bad acid trip to recover his memory. I’m looking forward to a scene of Walter filmed opposite the Guiness Tower on West Hastings in a prop yellow NYC taxicab.

And the tenth episode airing next Friday is an epic one with five downtown shoots in one day and most of the main cast on set to the delight of fans who’d travelled from as far as Australia, Toronto, Seattle and Portland to see filming. More fans flew in from around the world (one from as far away as Russia) to watch filming of the three-part sereis finale, with the eleventh episode on location in Gastown, Chinatown and the West End. And the twelfth episode on location in Coal Harbour and at the Vancouver Public Library.

Ahead of the filming of the 100th and final episode, Warner Bros. TV hosted a gala 100th episode party at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel decorated with white tulips and attended by Fringe creator JJ Abrams, showrunners Joel Wyman and Jeff Pinker, cast and Vancouver crew. And then after a day to recover, Fringe cast and crew started work on the last episode of Fringe ever. Directed by showrunner Joel Wyman, the final episode proved to be much tougher to find with only one day of public shoots downtown. A week ago Wednesday, the main unit filmed Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson and other cast in underground parking at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and then in and around Oceanic Plaza in front of dozens of local and international fans until 2:00 a.m. I was at the False Creek Energy Centre where a second splinter unit had set up lights under the Cambie Bridge to film finale scenes also directed by Wyman.

Unfortunately this week’s shoots were all private as Fringe crew either blew up stuff overnight on Port Metro Vancouver land near the old BC Sugar building or worked in studio. But that means the secret of how Fringe ends remains largely intact.

The 2-hour Fringe series finale airs on Friday, January 18th, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on FOX in the U.S. and Citytv in Canada.

Fringe [finished filming its third] to last episode ever today in the pouring rain in Vancouver’s West End in front of fans who’d travelled from as far as Australia and Russia to see their show wrap. The highlight of the morning had to be a big hug scene between Joshua Jackson’s Peter Bishop and his TV father, John Noble’s Walter Bishop. They did a long walk and talk out of an alley and up Bute Street, filmed by a camera crew on a cart and another camera crew using a tracking shot. Each time the pair were to embrace, a crew member called out “hug”. And when the camera crew was filming Anna Torv’s Olivia and Rowan Longworth’s Child Observer walking up behind father-and-son and the “hug” cue given, Joshua Jackson embraced cameraman Chris instead. So on a cold, very wet day of filming a lot of fun was had on set.

Now that Olivia has been de-ambered in Fringe’s fifth season premiere, it’s time (overdue) to share her reunion with her scattered family and ongoing role in the Fringe resistance in 2036. In tonight’s episode, In Absentia, Olivia (Anna Torv) is part of the team searching the under-Observer-control Harvard campus for a hidden tunnel into Walter’s lab, played by the west entrance to the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre at the University of British Columbia, not by the main entrance to the CHEM building like it has been in the past.

I came to the scene late in mid-August and so was at the wrong end to capture the Fringe team’s faces like a set photographer did here. It was the first time I’d seen Olivia (after 20 years encased in amber) on location with her estranged husband Peter (Joshua Jackson), her father-in-law Walter (John Noble), her grownup daughter Etta (Georgina Haig) and her colleague and friend Astrid (Jasika Nicole) in 2036.

Anna Torv is so tanned from a month on Maui that crew called it Amber Burn.

A month later, I spotted Olivia (Anna Torv) under the Burrard Bridge leaning against the Bishop mobile with the rest of her TV family. Torv rode her bicycle back and forth to circus at the nearby HRMcMillan Space Centre for exercise, while other cast strolled back and forth in the sunshine, including Lance Reddick

[Olivia (Anna Torv) is thrilled at the sight of Lance Reddick's Philip Broyles, who was hidden behind a pillar from my perspective]

A couple of days later, Olivia (Anna Torv) was part of the Fringe team infiltrating a New Jersey Monorail station played by Pacific Central Station, but it was an Olivia stunt double who drove the Bishop mobile in their getaway during the evening shoot.

#AnotherWay – Fringe’s 2nd episode in its final season airs tonight at 9 p.m. on FOX in the U.S. and Citytv in Canada.

It was Timothy Omundson’s turn to shiiine tonight in a The Shining-themed season six episode called Heeeeere’s Lassie on Global TV. His normally buttoned-down Santa Barbara police detective Carlton “Lassie” Lassiter goes psycho after buying a condominium in the Prospect Gardens apartments, a place he comes to believe is haunted. And that forces this skeptic to hire the services of James Roday’s psychic detective Shawn Spencer and his BFF, Dule Hill’s Burton “Gus” Guster, who come dressed as ghost busters.

James Roday directed this episode with a lot of horror film sight gags, like a pregnant woman named Rosemary (Rosemary’s Baby) and the twin old ladies, boy on a toy bicycle, chandelier dripping with blood, labyrinth in the basement and a dishevelled Lassie chasing Gus through it (The Shining). Here’s Omundson below looking very Jack Nicholson emerging from the building after filming. And this is what he tweeted after wrapping the episode last summer: ”Just got in from a Looooong day at work. Well…5 of them to be exact. Gonna clean my gun, press my bullet proof vest and hit the rack.”

It turns out red-headed Sara Rue’s character Amy is actually the person driving the men mad with psychotropic drugs. Shawn and Gus chase her to the roof of the building, where her stunt double lands in the awning. Case solved.

Published August 3rd on Vancouver is Awesome.

A week today, about a hundred Fringe fans from around the world will gather in Vancouver at The Fringe Event to celebrate their TV show and its upcoming fifth and final season Local fans — of which there are many — are welcome to join in on a weekend of Fringe-themed activities: like bowling at Sam’s bowling alley or hiking up to Reiden Lake (at their real locations in North Vancouver) or challenging a true Fringie to a show mythology quiz (Warning: they are walking Fringepedias. Don’t believe me? Ask to be introduced to Vancouver’s own @naddycat).

I had the privilege of meeting some of the event’s key international organizers at Fringe shoots last summer in the West End and Chinatown. They’d come from as far away as Australia, England, Germany and other countries to see their show being filmed on location, spending hours together on set bonding in their love of all things Fringe – except maybe Anna Torv’s alt-universe red-haired doppleganger Fauxlivia, who’d come between the show’s most shipped couple POlivia in season three (fortunately Joshua Jackson’s Peter Bishop and Anna Torv’s Olivia Dunham reunited again in season four and can be seen filming a scene below for upcoming season five in Stanley Park).

The Fringe fandom is like no other: smart, creative and loud (according to showrunner Joel Wyman). But the loudness is really the joining together and amplification of fan power through hugely successful Fringe Friday Twitter and Get Glue campaigns organized by Fringenuity, whose entire team will be attending next weekend. American network FOX even featured Fringenuity’s unique hashtags on their broadcasts of Fringe last season.

Above all, Fringe fans are fun. So don’t miss out on all the red vines and white tulips. The Fringe Event starts Friday evening, August 10th, and runs until midnight Sunday, August 12th, with inside events at the West End’s Coast Plaza Hotel. Fringe fans also care. Tickets cost C$135 but a large chunk of the proceeds will go to Oxfam Canada. Click on Registration for tickets.

Fringe is expected to resume filming of season five next week after an unexpected two-week production shutdown due to cast illness.

#TheyAreComing – Fringe’s season five premiere airs Friday, September 28th, at 9 p.m. on FOX in the U.S. and City-TV in Canada.
